Please join us to kick off a new activity – the monthly Net Impact Seattle Book Club!
The premise is this:
-We read primarily non-fiction books focused on current global issuesthat cover economic, social, political, business, and environmental issues.
-We meet monthly, and take turns hosting the group for dinner. The host gets to pick the book that the group will read for that month.
-We try to invite a speaker to the meeting, or attend an event that adds to the discussion about the book.
For the first month, Shara Senior will host. The book is “Portfolios of the Poor: How the World’s Poor Live on $2 a Day” (Princeton University Press, 2009). The book “tackles the fundamental question of how the poor make ends meet. Over 250 families in Bangladesh, India, and South Africa participated in this unprecedented study of the financial practices of the world’s poor”.
***Buy the book and start reading now so that we can discuss on May 5th***
To supplement the discussion, Shara is planning to arrange for a guest speaker who has experience in micro-finance (please contact her if you have any suggestions). So purchase the book, start reading, and get ready for some good food and great dialogue.
