Board Nominations Open for 2011

Help shape the Seattle net impact professional chapter

net impact seattle sustainabilitySeattle Net Impact is recruiting Board members. Join us in inspiring, educating, and equipping individuals to use the power of business to create a more socially and environmentally sustainable world.

We are seeking board members who can:

  • Commit to a 1-year term
  • Participate in one in-person meeting and one call a month, plus one or two half-day planning sessions per year
  • Attend, and help plan, monthly Net Impact events
  • Lead a committee

The following positions are open:

  • President
  • Membership Chair
  • Program leads for: Dinner & Dialogue; Book Club, Networking; Volunteer events; Corporate events; Partner events; Career Development; Student Chapter Liaison

This is a high-energy, engaged board. Lots of great social and professional connections are made. Nominations are due by July 19 and self nominations encouraged. Previous experience with participating in a Net Impact chapter is a plus.

During the Inaugural Book Club meeting on May 5th, we discussed Portfolios of the Poor: How the World’s Poor Live on $2 a Day.

The next Book Club meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 23 2010 from 6:30 – 9:00pm. We’re reading The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan. Dinner will feature dishes made using the recipe kits from Veena’s Market. Attendees will also receive sample spice blends.

Member Spotlight: Veena Prasad, Founder of Veena’s Market

Veena recently launched Veena’s Market, a company that sells recipe kits for ethnic cuisines. She’s looking for mentors with retail expertise or experience with grocery chains. What do you do and why did you join Net Impact?

I recently started a company called Veena’s Market. As a child growing up in South India, my mother made delicious and healthy food every day. After having lived in the US for a while, I saw the opportunity to bring authentic Indian cuisine into American kitchens. Americans attempting to cook Indian food at home are discouraged by the challenge of finding all the right spices in reasonable amounts and recipes that work for them. Veena’s Market solves this problem by offering recipe kits with the specialty ingredients in just the amounts you need, a shopping list for the fresh ingredients and a proven recipe. [...]
